TELUS Awards Funding to Local Filmmaker to Raise a Little Hell
(Edmonton, AB.) Monday, August 28, 2017 – And you thought your job was hell... Local filmmaker Randy Brososky has been selected by TELUS STORYHIVE to receive funding to produce the first six episodes of his darkly comedic web series, Necessary Evil.
Set in literal corporate hell, Necessary Evil tells the story of a low-level demon at Hell LLP who is suddenly promoted to CEO. With new powerful, jealous adversaries he must figure out why he was hired, and what he can do to solve a problem that threatens the universe.
Several stories have already been produced in the Necessary Evil universe, including a pilot episode, a mockumentary called Recruiting Hell – both of which were also funded by TELUS – and The Hellevator Project: 100 one-minute videos set in Hell LLP, filmed and posted to Instagram in one day.
STORYHIVE is a community –powered funding program by TELUS that offers production grants and distribution opportunities for local creative talent in Western Canada. Brososky, the series creator, credits STORYHIVE as being the catalyst behind getting Necessary Evil off the ground.
"Especially in light of the national conversations around broadcasters supporting Canadian content creators, it's fantastic to see TELUS continuing to invest in Albertan and British Columbian filmmakers,” says Brososky. “Necessary Evil wouldn't exist without their support."
Production will begin in Edmonton in the coming months and the episodes will be available on TELUS Optik TV On Demand and online in the summer of 2018.
You can find Necessary Evil online at necessaryevilseries.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/necessaryevilwebseries, and you can watch the entire Hellevator Project at Instagram.com/necessaryevilseries
