LOCALLY PRODUCED FILM TO PREMIERE AT EDMONTON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL
“And you thought your job was hell.”
(Edmonton, AB.) Monday, September 17, 2018 – Necessary Evil, a dark comedy about literal corporate hell, filmed here in Edmonton, will be having its world premiere at the 2018 Edmonton International Film Festival.
Necessary Evil tells the story of a low-level demon at Hell LLP who is mysteriously promoted to CEO. Suddenly he must navigate a very different world of office politics, deal with new, powerful adversaries, and figure out why he was chosen.
Created by local filmmaker Randy Brososky, Necessary Evil is a testament to the many talented film professionals who call Edmonton home. With the exception of the director (Chris Donaldson, originally from Lethbridge, now working in Vancouver), all of the cast, crew and creators live in Edmonton or are Edmonton ex-pats. The cast includes Mark Meer, best known as Commander Shepard in BioWare’s Mass Effect video games, and Edmonton-raised Trevor Devall, who writes and voices for Marvel Animation Studios in Los Angeles.
“Edmonton’s tremendous talent-base is possibly our best-kept secret,” says Randy Brososky, creator and star. “There are actors, crew and creators here who are on par with anyone in Vancouver or Hollywood, and we were incredibly fortunate to have so many of them working on this production.”
Necessary Evil was produced by the Group of Rogues, and more than sixty people were involved in producing the film, which was shot in February at several locations within the city. Created as a webseries, this season spans six episodes, which are also edited as an hour-long feature. The feature version will be shown at the festival.
The journey to the screen has spanned more than five years, with various smaller projects in the story world receiving funding and being produced, including a pilot webisode, the mockumentary short film Recruiting Hell, and the Instagram-only Hellevator Project. These projects have earned several Rosie nominations, and have screened at festivals across Canada, in Romania and Brazil. This marks the largest and most ambitious project to date.
Necessary Evil will premiere on Friday, September 28 at 8:30 pm at the Landmark Cinemas 9 City Centre. Tickets are now available through edmontonfilmfest.com or directly from Landmark Cinemas.
You can find Necessary Evil online at necessaryevilseries.com, on Facebook at facebook.com/necessaryevilwebseries, and on Instagram.com/necessaryevilseries where you can also watch the entire Hellevator Project.
